The doughnuts of Sapione

(Dedicated to my friend)

Sweet Art: a revealed secret.

In the streets of the citadel of Sapione, the scent of doughnuts filled the air every morning at 8 o'clock.

Everyone chased that warm breeze, which then vanished at 9. It was practically... like a wave! That warm breeze, with hints of vanilla and cocoa, filled every corner of the town and was so eagerly awaited that the residents had no reason to sleep past that time.

It was Mr. Dredi who made his doughnuts in the family shop.

Mr. Dredi's treat rose all night, releasing all sorts of aromas, and with baking, they would spread to every possible corner of Sapione. It was said they crossed the neighboring valleys on windy days.

Vanilla, cocoa, and ginger took the lead, followed by the heart notes of lavender and saffron, which arrived punctually like clockwork. These and many other fragrances painted the air.

In the morning there was a bustling crowd. Some sought lemon, others lavender, and all noses pointed to the sky.

But at 9 o'clock sharp, everything disappeared.

Dredi owned a dog, Golimpo. A special dog that could speak. One night, Golimpo asked his owner how he would make the doughnuts for the next day. Dredi replied, "Every doughnut is different, Golimpo! As I knead, I see the shape of the bubbles. It's the dough itself that asks for the flavor, and I try to satisfy it, and they rise twice as much." That was the secret!

Golimpo listened attentively to his beloved master, Dredi's, words and nodded wisely. He was fond of that doughnut scent which spread throughout Sapione every morning. So, when the sun rose over the horizon and the aroma of the doughnuts filled the air, Golimpo knew that the day had begun.

The people of Sapione loved Mr. Dredi's doughnuts, and many would visit his shop to savor them. Each one was a little masterpiece, different from the others, just as their master explained.

One day, as Dredi worked diligently in his shop, he smiled at Golimpo and said, "Today, I’ll make a truly special doughnut, Golimpo. I have an idea that will make this morning unforgettable for everyone in Sapione."

Golimpo nodded, happy to be involved in the art of doughnuts. He helped his master in every possible way, standing by him as he mixed the ingredients and smelled the various fragrances filling the room.

Finally, Dredi's special treat was ready. It was a masterpiece of aromas and flavors, with a heart of myrtle and cinnamon, alongside ginger, orange, and nutmeg. It was an edible work of art!

The next morning, when the scent of that special doughnut wafted through Sapione's streets, people stopped to inhale the air and smiled. It was an aroma unlike anything they had ever experienced, and everyone could feel the love and artistry that the good Dredi had put into his creation.

Golimpo watched proudly as his master's doughnut drew people together to enjoy that special treat. They had made Sapione's morning even more magical than it had ever been.

From that day on, Mr. Dredi's special doughnut became a tradition in Sapione, a way to start the day with joy and gratitude. And while the scent disappeared at 9 o'clock sharp, the memory of that special pastry remained in everyone's hearts like a little miracle.
